Ms. .Mahaney said, "At Teacher Table we work on a particular standard, such as, main idea and details. It's helpful because I get to work with a small group of students on a concept so there is more opportunity for students' response and discussion." So, as you can see, Teacher Table is a very important part to Daily 5 Stations as this gives the teacher valuable information for each student in their learning process.

Word work is designed to help students practice decoding skills and learn new vocabulary words. Word work engages the learners and allows them to decode wordsin a variaty of literature situations, such as, sight words, library books, Raz-Kidz, and reading groups.
Some classes use Versatile to practice comprehension strategies, comprehension skills, and vocabulary skills. Students answer questions and use tiles to create a pattern. They are able to self-check their work by checking to see if the pattern is correct or not. If the pattern does not match, then students know which areas they need to work on. Each student is able to work on their own ability levels at the same time. Read to someone is a station where students read to each other. As they read, they work on building fluency and practicing reading strategies. Partners are also able to help each other with difficult words. When a student comes to a word that they do not know, the partner might ask "Coaching or time?" With this strategy, students may just need a little more time with the word to figure it out on their own or they can ask for help from their partner. Our reading teachers teach us strategies to coach our partners. When students participate in Read to Someone, they have more confidence in reading in front of people. In this station students work with partners that have similar Lexile levels and they choose what they will read together. Students also learn to compromise by playing rock, paper, scissors if they can't decide whose book to read, or they make a deal to read one partners' book one day and the other partners' book the next time. This station is also a place where students can talk about what they read. Students are required to ask each other high level questions about they are reading to check for understanding.
To become better readers students have a station where they read independently to their self. Students can choose what they want to read and read books on their lexile level, or reading level. Reading to self helps students become more independent readers. In past reading programs, students had to read a specific book with the whole class. But with Read to Self they can read books based on their interests and lexile, so reading is more individualized.
The Daily 5 is a program where students can rotate through stations to develop skills in reading. Daily 5 allows students to read what interests them and works at their own levels. It also helps the students work on their reading fluency. In these stations students read, write, work on vocabulary, and listen to someone read. In doing these stations students build their stamina in reading, increase fluency, and develops an enhanced vocabulary.
